Zack's Shack

So impressed with this great kid.
He has such a caring heart.
For the past 3 years since he was six
Zack has run a lemonade/cookie stand
to earn money for children who are in desperate
need of a wheelchair and unable to purchase one.
With the help of his family and grandparents
he has been able to provide many wheelchairs since
starting his little business.

We dropped by this weekend
to support his cause and check up on
how he was doing in this years efforts.
(Always fun to go back to our former neighborhood.)

Zack was featured on KSL's Studio 5 and news this week.
He told me he got tons more business this year because of that.
Several present and former BYU football players
came to meet him and support the cause.
He was pretty excited about that.
Humble, cute young man who wants to do good.
(The cookies and lemonade were delicious...)

Half a Century and a few years...

From this photo you'd think I was born a hundred years ago:)

Many moons ago on this day
 I arrived on planet earth.
Happy to still be here.

To Love, To Serve, To Offer All

Sunday our family was able to gather in celebration
of our dear friend Braden as he prepares to serve an
LDS mission in Phnom Penh Cambodia.
He is a remarkable young man with a special spirit.
My older girls were babysitters for him and his younger brother.
Since he was a little boy
he has planned and prepared to be a missionary.
Despite many challenges and disappointments
while growing up, he has always faced the world
with a positive attitude and a smile on his face.

(Braden with my youngest daughter at his baptism.)

I have known Braden since he was born.
I met his mother, Kim when she was one of my high school
students over 29 years ago.
Several years later we built a home in the same
neighborhood where she and her husband lived.
We became friends and our families have stayed
close despite their moving away 10 years ago.
During that time I have seen what an amazing mom
she has been raising two young boys
as a single mother.
It is evident how much they love and adore her.

(Couldn't resist sharing this cute photo of younger brother Cutler
who will be leaving on his own mission in a year and a half.)

Braden will have some challenges ahead as he learns
the language and the culture and prepares further
to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ
with the people of Cambodia.
He will do so with a strong desire and a humble heart.
Please say a little prayer for him
and his family.

Green Day Feast

I tried a new Irish Stew Recipe.
Apparently it was a hit because
there were no leftovers.
Added the usual festive green touches.
I hope Martha Stewart doesn't feel threatened.

Pi(e) Day

Daughter #2 loves pie.
She and her boyfriend went to a Pie Party.
(I'm feeling sorry for myself as I didn't get any pie today.)
I did see "Life of Pi" though
and absolutely loved it!

5 seconds in the spotlight...

Friday on the KSL-TV 6:00 News
my tweet was featured for
International Women's Day.
Fun little rush:)
(Deenie Wimmer even pronounced my name correctly.)

Then on the 10:00 news that same night
my husband was featured in an interview
about a local cause we were supporting.
(Caitlyn, just trying to be as cool as you are.)

Random Daughter Sighting

This is kind of funny.
The other night I turned on the TV to catch
some of the Utah Jazz game.
The show (Criminal Minds) was on
and for an instant I recognized this actor, Scott Grimes
and remembered him from his teenage years as a pop singer
as well as his many years playing a doctor on the popular ER.
(Listen to one of his songs as a 16 year old HERE produced by
Richard Carpenter of The Carpenters.)

All of a sudden on the TV I see my daughter in a "family portrait."
Haha. Just one of those serendipity moments.
(We have been setting the DVR for some of the
shows she has mentioned she has worked on,
but too many to keep track of.)
Criminal Minds is not a show I would normally watch
as I'm much too squeamish.
Ironically, neither would this particular daughter
who has always been our "scaredy cat."

So of course I texted my daughter and she said,
"Oh, so they ended up using the photo?"
She told me she spent two hours at a photo shoot
with the actors who played her dad and her sister.
She said he was really kind and funny.
And she had no idea who he was until I told her.
(On this episode he played a serial killer.
Quite against type for him.)
Anyway, I told her not to watch the episode
and just to fast forward to the times I gave her. Haha.
