Survival of the Fittest

This girl has officially made it through
the middle school jungle.
And she did it with a smile on her face.

A woman of quiet strength

photo: Gerry Avant
Frances J. Monson

I had the opportunity of meeting Sister Monson on a couple of occasions,
both after musical theatre productions in which I performed.
(Many who know President Monson are aware how much he
enjoys attending musical productions.)
One of the first things I noticed about her was her adorable smile.
She radiated warmth and kindness..
I recall how very gracious and complimentary she was to everyone in the cast.
I also remember how President Monson would just beam as he gazed at her.
My heart goes out to him at this tender time of temporary separation.

I love this beautiful tribute he gave to his wife:
"There was no chink in her armor;
there was no guile in her soul;
there was no flaw in her character."

The Singers Have Sung...

Another end-of-semester vocal recital is in the books.
The students sang beautifully.
The teacher's hands are tired.

Little Purple Pansies in the Garden Grow...

 photos by Court
Every spring I say to myself
"I should add some new colors to my yard."
And then I never do...
I have a 'purple problem.'

A gift...

"It's Not Fair" by Caitlin Connolly

I have this beautiful painting hanging in my home in a place
where I can look at it each day and ponder the gracious gift
of motherhood that I have been given.
It was painted by my talented friend who is struggling with the
heartache of infertility.
I have many dear girlfriends who, like Caitlin, share this sadness.
Over the years I have wept with them and prayed for them.
Some through amazing, painful and expensive medical treatments
were finally able to experience the miracle of a child.
Others were gifted a child through the blessings of adoption.
And some have remained childless.

I wanted to own this painting to remind me to never forget.
Every Mothers Day I think about these women.
