Taking Direction

Daughter #3 (far right) with Darren Criss and Jenna Ushkowitz on Fox's "Glee."

Saw our daughter in a couple of scenes from last week's
episode of GLEE.
It's kind of ironic that she is on a set several times
a week for commercials, a TV series or a movie
(Ironman 3 a few weeks back)
because she certainly didn't like her first acting experience.

When she was about 3 years old, a well-known local
actress asked us if we would be willing to let our daughter
audition for a commercial she had booked.
This actress had the same copper red curly hair as our daughter
and needed her to play her daughter in an ad
for a popular treadmill at the time.
We agreed and  took our daughter to her home a few times
to get to know her as well as practice the little exchange
which was basically her running into her "mom's"
arms and giving her a kiss on the cheek.
After she warmed up to her she did just fine.

On the day of the screen test audition my husband
took our daughter to the studio and I stayed behind for fear
of letting possible "stage mother" instincts take over.
Apparently when the director came onto the set and began
telling our daughter what to do,
she growled at him and refused to do anything she had rehearsed.
The actress tried unsuccessfully to get her to perform.
After a short break to allow her to calm her mood
they tried again but to no avail.
Thus ended the '"acting career" before it began:)
