3 Fab Singers

Caitlyn with fellow singer/songwriter Jenn Blosil on October 12th

Last Friday Caitlyn was invited to sing a concert
with Jenn Blosil
(who, by the way, made her Kickstarter goal
and will soon begin recording her album.)
and Faith Johnson
in LA
where Cait is now living.
From all reports it was a great evening.

Faith opened our May Rooftop Concert.
Hard to believe she is only 13!
Great vocal chops and songwriting skills.

Keep your eyes and ears on these talented gals.

Random Creepy

Each autumn I enjoy looking out my kitchen window
and watching our maple tree gradually changing color.
It is always a magnificent sight.
Yesterday as I looked at it,
I happened to look down and saw this:

At first it jarred me for a moment.
Then I realized it was a doll that
had perhaps been thrown over our fence?

Kind of creepy, huh?
Ah, October.
A month of goblins, ghouls and frights.

Make That TWO Newbery Awards

Two-time Newbery Award winning author
Lois Lowry is on my favorite authors list.
So when I learned months ago that she would
be making a visit to my town
I knew I had to hear her speak.

my blurry photo

That opportunity came last evening.
Ms. Lowry is on a tour to promote her new book
which completes a quad
started by the book
The Giver.

Lois Lowry has authored more than 40 books.
She came into writing later in life
after raising her children.
Her first book was published when she was 40 years old.
I have read several of her books over the years,
but after hearing that number it appears
I have many more to read.

She is also a photographer and an artist.
In fact, she took the photo for the cover of this book.

I really love this book.
Quite a departure from some of her other writing.
She designed the cover as well as
illustrated all of the chapter headings
throughout the book.

It was an honor to meet her.
I like this quote from Ms. Lowry:

"I am a grandmother now. For my grandchildren --and for all those of their generation--I try, through  writing, to convey my passionate awareness that we live intertwined on this planet and that our future depends upon our caring more, and doing more,
for one another."

One Talented Artist

The Luncheon Project interviewed my friend
and sort-of adopted daughter
(and Coryn's guitar teacher)
Caitlin Connolly of HUE and HUM.

LDS General Conference: Up Close and Personal

I love General Conference
It is my favorite weekend of the year (twice).
I especially love watching it in October.
Such amazing and love-filled counsel given for our good.
Coryn got to attend in person with some of her missionary friends.
At her mission reunion the night before, her former Mission President, Don H. Staheli, who served as President Gordon B. Hinckley's personal secretary gave the missionaries awesome tickets to sit up front and center!
Pretty special.

At our wedding reception at Brigham Young's Lion House in Salt Lake City.

Bill and I were married 29 years ago today! houston

We were sealed for eternity in the beautiful Salt Lake Temple
of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

We share this special anniversary with
President Thomas S. Monson and his dear wife, Frances
who were also married in the Salt Lake Temple
64 years ago.

Such wonderful models of
love, devotion, commitment and service.

Would that we can follow their example.

Happy Anniversary to Us!

29 Years
