Traditional Summertime Book Group

(All lovely photos courtesy of Brenda Labit.)

I love my Book Group.
The core of us have been together about 8 years.
The last few years we have wrapped up our year on Jan's patio.
She is a wonderful host and goes all out.
Her husband Wayne always makes us his famous dark berry smoothies.
Adding to the ambiance is the lilting sounds of harp
so beautifully played by Ashley.
Always great conversation and connection.
A peaceful respite for a few hours.

Sweet Jan, our hostess.                                                     Cheryl with Ashley on the harp.

Me enjoying Wayne's famous smoothies.                                   From Jan's doll collection.

Colleen is one of the newest members.
She brought her little guy along.
I love the variety of generations
and the friendships that have developed.

Court holding one of Jan's floral arrangements.
She loves to gift us.
Adore this tiny teapot.

Looking forward to September's gathering.

Look Up

Camp Theme: LOOK UP

My husband just got back after spending the week
at Stake Girl's Camp.
He started helping out when our oldest daughter
attended her first year.
This was his 14th year!
He takes the week off work and helps the leaders
with the "heavy lifting" so to speak:
Building fires, hikes, certification, skits,
spiritual messages, Priesthood blessings when needed.
I hope our 4 daughters realize how blessed they are
to have such an awesome dad who is willing to give
so much service to make things better for others.
Blessed me to have such a good man.

A moment in my former life...

25 years ago this week I opened in this show:
Rodgers and Hammerstein's
South Pacific.
My patient husband had to put up with me acting
all those love scenes.
(And believe me there were lots of kisses.)
He was a sailor in the chorus
(I think so he could keep an eye on me:).
My charming leading man was old enough to be my dad
and beloved by audiences.
It was quite the learning experience.

This was one of my favorite numbers.

Nellie Forbush is one of those classic roles
that many actresses want on their resume.
I mean, who doesn't want to sing,
"I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair..."
And I really did wash my hair nightly on stage
in a big metal tub
with Prell shampoo because it made the best suds.

Two adored directors put the show together.
One of them, Syd Riggs, passed away suddenly
7 years ago this week.
Broadway actress, Natalie Hill wrote a lovely
tribute about her mentor, Syd.
You may read it HERE.

Girls Camp Flashback 1972

Me leaving for girls camp 40 years ago.
Same age as my Cammy.
She heads off for her 2nd year of Girls Camp tomorrow.
Fun times.
Now days, I'd rather be home in my own bed,
Thank you very much.

Heartbreakers and American Girls

Our next Rooftop Concert will feature many of the
same musicians that performed our
Abbey Road Show last year.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
came onto the music scene when I was
a junior in high school.
He's been around a long time.
I understand he is STILL touring.
So, I'm anticipating a varied
generational audience.
Should be fun!

Festive Friday on the Rooftop

The rooftop was packed with eager fans
of two young up and coming local bands:
Desert Noises
The Moth and the Flame.

Yet another skinny musician with moi.

Can you guess from this handsome young man's smile
which famous family he belongs to?
Talented Tyler Osmond,
youngest son of Alan and Suzanne Osmond
plays bass and sings in Desert Noises.
I'm a new fan of their music.
Fun surprise to have Tyler's older brother David
stop by our greenroom to support Tyler.
I had such a great long conversation with him.
I've admired David Osmond for years,
not only as a performer
but as a humble, genuine, giving person.
He doesn't disappoint in person.
He's the real deal.
(Brenda, this photo is not to make you've beat me on that count.)

Court, Cammy and Coryn were great greeting the artists
at the credentials check-in table.
(Wonder who Cammy has just noticed at the door?)

Here's Court hanging out by the security detail.
Notice in the back you can see lovely Mindy Gledhill
holding her sweet baby Griffin
next to her handsome husband.
The concert was so good,
More on that next time.
