Counting Sheep

My daughter Cammy gave me the cutest stuffed sheep for my birthday named: Sleepy Sheepy. She told me I could take it to bed with me to help me sleep. A lovely thought.

Those who know me well know that I rarely sleep well. I've tried many things, but to no avail.

The last time I remember sleeping soundly was when I was serving as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I can't really explain why. Perhaps a mix of exhaustion from spreading the Good Word and extra blessings for doing so?

If anyone has any good suggestions for getting a solid 7-8 hour sleep each night. Please let me know.

And Cammy, thanks for the sweet little sheep and the good wishes that came with it.

Shameless Post

(Me, a long time ago, somewhere in Alvin, Texas. Check out the early 80's hair.)

I love BIRTHDAYS. And not just my OWN. (Though it is today.) I love the whole IDEA of birthdays. Celebrating another human being because they are HERE on this EARTH we all share.

My friend Jan, has taught me that we should celebrate the ENTIRE MONTH of our birth. And it seems that is just what I have done.

Some of those things have included: LUNCHES with dear friends (old and new); attending a festive NEW MOVIE with my family; trying a QUAINT new restaurant with them; getting a haircut; attending the annual ART & SOUP celebration in SLC (chaired by my awesome longtime friend/roomie Robbie) with my husband and mom; having a 'face-to-face' chat with my favorite KSL radio host, Doug Wright; enjoying a fabulous HOMEMADE DINNER with our friends, the Raybacks (coconut cake masterpiece included); my husband recovering well after his accident; delightful surprise gifts on my doorstep; a beautiful song from the Spring Creek Concert Choir; walks in the springtime SUNSHINE; more NEW SHOES from my husband; buying some NEW BOOKS; a phone call from my brother reminding me he is still two years YOUNGER than me; cards in the mail, phone calls, and lovely songs and treats from my vocal students, and a PURPLE BIRTHDAY CAKE by Coryn.

How much more can a girl be CELEBRATED??

Some Favorite "Mr. Fox" quotes

Ash:
"There's a lot of attitudes going on around here. Don't let me get one."

Mr. Fox: "A Titanium card? How did you qualify for this?"
Kylie: "I pay my bills on time."

Mister Fox

My brother called the other day and said: "I just saw a very funny movie."
I said: "Oh, what movie?"
He said: " Fantastic Mr. Me"
I said: "Fantastic Mr. What?"
He said: "Fantastic Mr. Me."
Then I laughed.
You see, my maiden name is Fox. I had a lot of fun with that name while growing up and a lot of misery. (For example. My brothers and I used to joke with people that our family owned the movie company Twentieth Century Fox.)
When I was in high school guys would refer to a "hot girl" as a fox. And a lot of us called each other by our last names. So imagine how awkward it was for me when some guys would call out, "Hey, Fox" or "Come over here, Foxy." Do I turn my head and acknowledge that I think I'm a fox? Or do I keep walking and appear conceited?

"Fantastic Mr. Fox" comes out on DVD next week. If you like Roald Dahl's humor you will like this movie. Funny. Great voices. And the stop-motion animation was very cool.

Not One Episode

This will surprise many. I have not watched a single episode of this season's American Idol. Really. (And this from someone who has watched since the first time Kelly Clarkson took the stage.) Come to think of it, neither has anyone else in my family.

Why? I don't know. I guess I've lost interest. Season 7 was the last in which we were truly invested. Fun all around.

Only one of my vocal students has asked if I was excited for the season to start. Usually it is a hot topic at lessons. Apparently not this time.

I think when they started messing with the formula (4th judge, etc.) it lost me. I think after a personal negative experience with my daughter's own audition it soured me. I don't know. For me it was a fun ride while it lasted.
